The Mexico Creek Bridge at mile nineteen and a half on the Northern Highway was the scene for a deadly accident; two persons lost their lives when their vehicle ran off the highway. An elderly American couple, eighty-three year old Ronald Moran and his wife, eighty-two year old Martie, perished after the Ford F-three-fifty flatbed pick-up truck in which they were travelling suffered a left front wheel blowout and plunged into a dry portion of the creek. The incident occurred just after twelve-thirty on Saturday afternoon as the couple was heading northwards. Originally from the United States, the husband and wife team relocated to Sarteneja Village in Corozal years ago. Edward Cabanes was at home a few hundred yards away and ran out after he heard a loud bang as the vehicle plunged at driving speed into the creek.
